The port of Viareggio, Italy's yachting capital
The port of Viareggio runs along the Burlamacca canal in Versilia, between basins, quays and shipyards. With around 2,000 berths and moorings for vessels up to 80 metres, it is one of the major ports on the Tyrrhenian Sea and a hub of yacht building.
The Madonnina dock, with over 500 berths, is dedicated to sailing and motor boats; Darsena Europa offers moorings for yachts and superyachts, while Darsena Italia is home to the shipyards. The harbour can be entered at any hour, but in libeccio (south-west) and westerly seas the entrance calls for caution.
